History of the Taiwan Flag

Early Flags

  1. Qing Dynasty (1862–1895): The flags used were those of the Qing Empire.
  2. Japanese Rule (1895–1945): Taiwan was ceded to Japan, and the flag used was that of Japan.

Post-Japanese Rule

After World War II, Taiwan was placed under the administrative control of the Republic of China (ROC), and the ROC flag was adopted.

Current Flag (1945-Present)

The current flag of Taiwan, officially the flag of the Republic of China, was first flown in 1928 when the Kuomintang (KMT) party, led by Chiang Kai-shek, defeated the Beiyang Government and unified China.
