Wisconsin is a constituent state in the United States of America. It is located in the upper Midwestern United States.

The nickname of the state is The Badger State. The badger can be seen on Wisconsin’s coat of arms, state seal, and flag. In 1957, the badger was chosen as Wisconsin’s official state animal.

Even though the French were the first Europeans to arrive in the territory that is now Wisconsin, British control was established there in 1763. After the American Revolution was over, the territory formally became a part of the new nation some twenty years later, but it remained under British rule for a while. Native Americans engaged in combat to protect their territory, but by 1832, the majority of the conflicts had ended. In 1836, Wisconsin was designated as a territory, and the state was admitted to the Union as the 30th state on May 29, 1848.

It is bordered by Iowa to the southwest, Minnesota to the west, Illinois to the south, Michigan to the northeast, Lake Michigan to the east, and Lake Superior to the north.

The largest city in the state is Milwaukee, whereas Madison is the state capital. It is also the state’s second-largest city.

Wisconsin is the twenty-fifth largest state by area with a total area of 65,496 sq mi (169,635 sq km). According to the United States Census 2020, the state’s total population is 5,893,718 making it the twentieth most populous state.

Corn is the main crop grown in Wisconsin’s fertile black prairie soil. In 1989, Wisconsin declared corn to be the official state grain.

The state’s fame and appreciation for cheese is an interesting fact. Wisconsin’s cheese is so well-known that there is a cheese museum there. The National Historic Cheesemaking Center produces a 90-pound wheel of Swiss cheese on the second Saturday in June.

Manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, and agriculture are the pillars of its economy. Another important factor in the state’s economy is tourism.

In 1949, Wisconsin declared the American robin its official state bird. The Wood violet was chosen as Wisconsin’s official state flower.

The term “Forward” serves as Wisconsin’s official state motto and was chosen in 1851. The state flag and seal both display the motto. In 1959, Wisconsin declared “On, Wisconsin!” to be the state song. “Oh Wisconsin, Land of My Dreams” was declared the official state ballad in 2001.

Wisconsin has no official language; however, English is the most widely spoken language (91.32%), followed by Spanish (4.64%) with other languages accounting for the remaining 8.68%.
